Introduction to the Human Rights Act: 60 & 90 minute online awareness-raising sessions

Starting in 2027, BIHR is offering 60 & 90-minute online human rights awareness-raising sessions for teams and organisations working either in or alongside public services. These short sessions are designed as an accessible introduction to the Human Rights Act, aiming to build foundational practical knowledge, increase staff confidence, and introduce a rights-respecting approach to your work.
What will (and won’t) be covered in an awareness-raising session?
Our 60 & 90-minute online sessions introduce how human rights law works in the UK in a practical, accessible, and interactive way.
Learners will leave with:
A clear understanding of how the Human Rights Act works in practice
Greater confidence to recognise and respond to human rights issues
Practical ideas for promoting dignity, fairness and respect in everyday services and support
Our 90-minute session offers additional time and space for learners to discuss and reflect in small groups, explore practice-based scenarios, and apply learning to their work.
Our introductory sessions are not a substitute for BIHR’s in-depth, bespoke human rights support. Learners will gain need-to-know information about the Human Rights Act’s application to everyday situations, but we will not be able to cover specific rights or issues for your team or organisation in detail, or provide implementation support.
BIHR offers longer workshops, tailored to explore issues and scenarios your staff encounter, relevant human rights that may apply, and practical tools to support your team or organisation to embed their learning.

BIHR offers a graded pricing system to ensure our support is accessible to a range of teams & organisations.
Discounts apply:

Frequently Asked Questions
Do introductory sessions take place online or in-person?
All our 60 & 90-minute sessions take place online via Microsoft Teams. To explore options for in-person workshops, please contact training@bihr.org.uk.
How many people can attend an introductory session?
Up to 35 learners can attend an introductory session. We require a minimum of 7 people for sessions to run, as we encourage peer interaction to support learning and reflection.
When can introductory sessions take place?
BIHR can deliver introductory sessions at a time and date that is convenient for you, from February 2027 onwards. We require at least an 8-week lead-in time, subject to BIHR’s existing commitments and workshop-free periods.
What will BIHR’s role be?
BIHR is responsible for setting up the session at a time and date agreed with you, creating pre- and post-session surveys, creating and delivering the session, and providing you with brief evaluation feedback.
What will your role be?
You are responsible for registering people from your team or organisation onto the session, providing a list of names and roles to BIHR beforehand, sharing session information and surveys with learners before and after the session, and providing evaluation feedback to BIHR.
What about accessibility and reasonable adjustments?
BIHR is committed to making our training accessible and inclusive. All materials we use in our workshops are prepared in plain language as standard (i.e. language designed to be as accessible, understandable and easy to read as possible by our target audience). When enquiring about a session, please let us know about any additional access requirements and reasonable adjustments that participants may need. We will discuss these with you in advance and consider how best to make the session accessible.
Will I receive a certificate?
BIHR is unable to provide attendance certificates for our introductory sessions. Certificates are available for an additional fee on our bespoke workshops and programmes.
